The River List: First Winds
The River List:  First Winds is a dark-comedy set in a small Wisconsin town, following the lives of teenagers Lee Boseman and Kurt Gunderson. The coming-of-age narrative structure is divided into three acts, each showcasing pivotal moments that drive the story forward. In Act 1, we are introduced to the characters and their desire for excitement and escape. Act 2 takes a turn when Lee and his friends embark on a fateful trip to an island, leading to a life-altering accident. Act 3 explores the aftermath of the accident and Lee's journey towards self-discovery and determination.

This screenplay presents relatable and entertaining characters who navigate through challenges and personal growth.

Lee Boseman (class of 2000) is your average high school burnout when a near death experience changes everything. In a search for answers, Lee creates a list that he uses to guide him through the coming years.

Many years later, the list leads Lee back to the river where it all began in a very different world.  As he flashes back, a trip through time is taken with each item on the list being revisited.

The stakes couldn’t be higher as an epic battle persists on and off the river.  Non-stop chaos, conflict, and peculiar events continue throughout.   Lee paddles down the Mississippi River through constant storms and a record setting flood event that tests every fiber of his being.

Writer Statement
The United States of America has changed drastically since the year 2000. The River List (overall project) is a DRAMA - comedy that starts at that time and will portray America then and America now. Flashbacks illustrate key events and changes over the twenty- year period of time. Personal struggles ensue throughout the completion of the list and overarching questions about life (ie., who gets to live and who gets to die?) are examined along the way. Strong entertaining characters are developed in the pilot and brought back in flashbacks as the protagonist moves through his 2020 world. Several antagonists emerge throughout the story. New characters are also introduced from time to time as Lee works his way down the Mississippi River and revisits certain places in time. A powerful roller coaster ride spanning several countries and every part of the United States continues to the end.

Sun down moving on Searching through the unknown Fall’s gone tonight Wading on this river road Oh mother won’t you pray for us Help read between the lines Everything keeps on leaving us We ain’t got much time Yeah we’re wading down the river road Wading down the river road

The Beginning
The End?
There is one thing on the list that has not been completed.
Don’t leave the days for the sideshow wars
Save what’s been left of the lives that won’t live anymore
Breathe on your way, go get what you’re fighting for
And don’t let the water go cold
  • Illinois, United States
Now the blood’s been broken
oh we’ve fought
 all sides of us
Just as the floods keep rolling
Through every part of us
Through every part of us
